Familiar Places

My family spent yesterday just chilling out: a morning walk around the neighborhood, a lazy afternoon playing at Eddie Park and this sunset view from the benches above the skate park.

I had to smile when I heard this song coming from a neighbor's window...

A fantastic photo, I nearly can't stop looking at the sky, sun, light. Denmark is very dark and cold today, here is too much wind...

Awesome photo! Are you sure it wasn't this you heard (and saw)?

Just stunning. It rivals many sunset shots I've seen on award winning sites. The natural framing of the tree to the left is the icing on the cake. Making it my new background. :)

Jergen: YOU are a ray of light for reaching out from Denmark into South Pasadena. I love the way so many people from so many parts of the world visit this blog, creating a truly global community of positive thought.

If there is snow in Denmark now, toss a snowball for us, Jergen!

I have always admired sunsets and we've had our share of great ones lately. I enjoyed this one last night as I was driving at dusk. But, you have captured what might be the most beautiful photo of a sunset that I've ever seen. Simply spectacular. Thank you.

Good morning fine people,

Welcome, Jørgen!

Thanks, everyone, for such nice words. DB, I think this might have been the prettiest sunset I've SEEN other than the ones over the Caribbean that Jon and I saw when we got married. Yesterday's sunset really had an MGM technicolor backdrop quality to it for a few minutes. I was lucky to capture it.

I really enjoy sunsets viewed from this vantage point. Remember the one where I saw someone propose to his girlfriend? There's something magical about that little stretch of sky looking out over Los Angeles.

Earl, that version of the song opened with a shot of a sunset! Cool.

Hope everyone has a lovely Sunday. I'll check back later.

dbd is right. That might be one of the best sunsets ever.

Lovely, lovely. Nature (God) gives us these sunsets to help make up for all the sadness in the world. This one is a true beauty. And I enjoyed Frank and Tommy doing, "I'll Be Seeing You." As I hope to do sooner than later.

Laurie,
This is breathtaking.

Mr. Earl: I'm sitting here enveloped in my tears from your rendition of, "I'll Be Seeing You."

Mister Earl said...

Thank you, Dixie Jane. Credit goes to Frank and the videographer who used San Francisco as "all the old familiar places."

Laurie: I just checked to see if your sunset made it to my desktop. Yes, yes, yes. Thank you for plucking this photo from out of the sky.

What's amazing about the song and the photo is that the song includes the line, "ll find you in the morning sun; And when the night is new."

Mister Earl: Jergen's Lotion. That is funny. I just now got it. :-)

Awesome foto. Magnificent!

You're learning sky photography from Shanna very well! She's a great teacher as you know.

Mister Earl: I may be banned from here soon. Too many entries. Songs of this genre really touch me. I was a chanteuse for about 15 years culminating at the Polo Lounge. Get Laurie to tell you about it.

Mister Earl said...

I've heard about that, Dixie Jane. Great! You still have a standing invitation to come to one of the Pasadena swing dances whenever you're in town!!

Jorgen is my dad's name. That was pretty tough for people in the states, so half of his friends called him "George."

This photo is just all things lovely. All the colors you picked up -- astonishing.

I seem to remember your asking if we are living beneath the same sky. You just weren't looking. Now you are!

A little 16mm short film I shot in the mid 90s took place at sunset all over Los Angeles. I remember calling my skeleton crew and cast at the last minute on some days saying, "the clouds are great for a sunset tonight! LEt's shoot!" THere is nothing like a vibrant sky to make a photographer feel like a painter.

I still bow to Shanna's amazing eye for skies. SHe's the sky master, for sure.

Thanks again, everyone. It's fun to post a real crowd pleaser. YOu guys know me, I like the night prowling, black and white stuff the best! :-)

I meant to post this earlier... check out Altadenahiker's sky photograph on her recent post. All the San Gabriel Valley bloggers have been captivated by January's clouds.

I just clicked on your label "sky" to see all of your past sky pictures. It's not just night photos, you're masterful with a sky too, Laurie! Beautiful work. What was the film you shot about? Can we see it?

Petrea Burchard said...

Whooee! That's a framer.

Laurie Allee said...

Thanks Mike! Thanks P!

Mike, my film was a little story about two odd people who meet at the Hollywood Memorial Cemetery and fall in love. It was an homage to old MGM musicals and silent films. Alas, nobody will ever see it because it was never finished. Lack of funds, flaky partners, it's a long --but typical -- story of independent filmmaking.

Til tomorrow, all!

Laurie this is drop dead gorgeous!!!

Mr.E, I'll Be Seeing You is about Paris you know. One of my favorites. I won't listen right now or I'll start sniffling again.

I am not having a really easy time easing back into my real life, s'il vous plait. I would appreciate some consideration M. Earl. :) And for your information, searching the correct song did in fact make me cry a little but I'm all better now.

Rod Stewart's version is pretty nice. A friend of mine bought all of his CDs of the old standards. I think there are four.

WV: dicsa, but since I mentioned CDs, let's just say it was disca.

Virginia said...

Oh yes, I have many many of those songs on my Ipod. :)
