Merry Still

Heap on the wood!
The wind is chill;
But let it whistle as it will,
We'll keep our Christmas merry still.

MERRY, MERRY!

Great photo. These are the same people who did an amazing decorating job for Halloween. This included completely covering the front of their house in cardboard that looked like dungeon walls.

By the way, I drove by yesterday afternoon, and it appeared that the wind had played havoc with many of the lights. The Santa on the roof was tipped over, and it appeared that the lights on the roof had been tossed about. I hope the overall damage wasn't too bad.

Have a Merry Christmas!

That's a lot of light! I've got someone on my blog today who might outshine this house, but not sure.

Best wishes for a wonderful Christmas to you!!

I'm grinning from ear to ear. Reminds me so much of the small frame house street here in Austin, where the neighbors decorate their houses and yards with everything from light wrapped skeletons to huge Stars of David, to a beat up car covered with lights. They string them all together so that it is a giant street connected not only by power cords but by camaraderie and friendship.

We had a cold front blow through overnight so we are going to get to wear our Christmas sweaters and drink our spiked cider without sweating, or having to stand in front of a fan.

Best of everything to this group of comment givers. Although I may never know any of you in person, I feel like those people on the street of lights - we are all connected somehow. Merry Christmas and bless us everyone.

My goodness, that's some decorated house. I don't normally like this sort of thing but this house looks as if it's been done with a feeling for colour.

wishing you and your family the very best Christmas, Laurie.

amazing! I agree with Jilly in that homes with so many decorations can come across as a bit gaudy, but this one works really well. looks like much thought was put into arranging these lights.

Now I know why the power went out the other night. These folks turned on the lights for the first time. What a great Christmas show.

How wonderful it is to know all of you, if only by your comments. Amazing how I feel that we are somehow connected, kind of like the funny street here that Judy described. You have to see it to believe it. One feature is a lit up old car with a skeleton at the wheel all decked out in lights. It's enough to blow the fuses for that whole side of town. May we continue to share our lives and tales with each other. It's been a grand, fun year for getting to know you all, thanks to Laurie. Looking forward to another year and a trip early on to Calif. by me. You are all a part of my extended family. Let's all enjoy the season and look forward to a wonderful New Year.

When Dixie Jane makes her trek to Southern California, we should all get together and welcome her properly. Judy - why don't you join her?

Now this is some serious Christmas spirit!!! Do you suppose they say "Let there be light" each time they turn the lights on???

I agree with you Dixie Jane! This has been a lovely and unique way to get to know people from all over the world...and we get to hear such delightful and intimate stories that we would probably never hear if we all met at a get together...

Here's one more story...

My daughter-in-law stopped by this morning on her way home from Chino...she and her family were visiting friends in Chino Hills last night so that they could see the Boat Parade...a tradition in Chino Hills...yes I did say hills...there's no water there...apparently a bunch of neighbors got together about 11 years ago and decided to have their own dry land boat parade...so they all decorated their boats on their trailers and proceeded to tow their decorated boats in an impromptu parade...look out Doo Dah parade of Pasadena...this could be the new trend!!!

Merry Christmas to all!!! And a blessed post Hannakah to you Mr. Earl, and to all our Jewish friends!!!

I love the silhouette of the family.

Speaking of Chino Hills, I saw a Huell Howser show last night about the Christmas Star on a hillside in San Antonio HIlls near Upland. It burned down in the fires last fall along with the house of the man who built it. The community raised money, supplies, and labor to rebuild it. It's nice when a community comes together for something.

We may need to do that here in South Pasadena in the next few days. More later.

This looks like the gingerbread house that we had made a couple of years ago. Fantastic!

Speaking of gingerbread houses, I'm elbow deep in food coloring and mixing bowls. We've got a gingerbread house that is ending up looking like something envisioned by Jackson Pollack!

That is absolutely gorgeous. I am crazy for green lights. The silhouetted family in front of the display is touching.

I've got a post up today that you and yours will love visiting. It's my gift to the blogging community.
