Footage

So many film, TV and commercial productions shoot in South Pas it sometimes feels like we're living in a studio back lot. It's fun to play spot the location while watching something on TV. Shakers shows up so often that if you took a shot every time you saw it you might end up with acute alcohol poisoning. And Mad Men lovers take note: our wholesome little region has played host to some of Don's (and Betsy's) adulterous shenanigans...

Here, film crew members wait at Bistro de la Gare while cameras roll inside. That's show business.

What? You were hoping to have dinner maybe?

You know much more about the local shoots than I do. I do recall they shot a scene from Brothers and Sisters with Calista Flockhart at the Bistro awhile back.

I spent 2 1/2 years working a temporary assignment in Chicago, and used to run into this kind of thing all of the time. It got to be fun to turn the corner and find a film crew. That was in the hight of "E.R." so those guys were always roaming the streets.

my sweetie and friends have stopped being amazed when I say "Hey, that commercial/tv show/spot was filmed at X in XYZ city". They used to say "How'd ya know?". Now they just shake their heads and say "it was 10 seconds, how could you possibly know!". Thankfully, with DVR/Tivo, we can slo-mo backup and I can show everyone the details I saw.

Enjoy the star-gazing!

We have a fair amount of filming in Montrose as well...it's amazing that I still get a little bit of a buzz when I see the production equipment set up... especially because I'm so tired of all the hollywood hoopla and their self imposed importance...I just don't get including hollywood gossip in the news...call me crazy, but I really would rather know what's going on in the State legislature or the national and international scene than the Hollywood scene...

Trish: Isn't it funny how a 10-second scene requires a couple of hours of shooting to create?

You have the gift of "scene recognition!"

Let's all appreciate the ubiquitous presence of film crews while we can... because today, many are moving to other, less expensive states for their shoots.

Behind those George Baily facades, I'm sure there are lots of shenanigans in South Pas.

You're right, Karin. That's why the high school's mascot is The Tigers!

"Tiger" has a whole new meaning in light of current events in the world of golf. As for filming in South Pasadena, it can be a major inconvenience for some, but it also helps the local economy as well as help to keep an important industry in Southern California.

The important industry being, "Standing Around", as seen in Laurie's photo.

(Mr. Earl using the wrong you-know-what.)

Is that why we couldn't near the Bistro last night?

Laurie - check your email. My phone is not working.

Yak---yes, I do, mostly because I'm a photographer, I see the shot...but tell me to recognize a person's eyes and I'd fail, badly---not good at eye contact. yes, standing around is a theme...takes forever to get a few good minutes to print!

and coincidence? The mascot at Westridge is a Tiger too...hmmmn. Tho I suspect were he to set foot on Madeline Drive, he'd wish his wife were coming after him with a 5 iron!

Plenty of goings-on in SoPas---known and less known.

Hear here, Yak. I'm always glad to see a crew at work.
