Something's Up

Not exactly a rainbow, not exactly a sundog, but something odd and beautiful above South Pas the other day. Nature's paintbrush? A secret government experiment? Optical illusion?

Whatever it was, it sure was pretty.

Wow. You scooped me on this one.

And I was bummed at not having my camera when the Full Moon rose on Monday. Wonders never cease.

This is fabulous.

pieces of a rainbow
a palm tree reaches out

A rainbow, a piece of a rainbow. A piece of heaven. Whatever you want to call it, I call it beautiful and I always think of a rainbow as a sign. I know, I am of the "woo woo" bunch, but isn't there something magical about every rainbow that happens? Thanks, Laurie for being in the right place at the right time. I shall never forget a visit from Shanna and we were driving around in a misty rain when we saw a double rainbow. It was her birthday!

Woah, the sky is big in South Pas!

Shanna, I wondered if you saw this. It lingered for a LONG time on a warm, fairly clear day with little humidity. What this picture doesn't capture is how vivid the colors were in that piece of rainbow/sundog/whatever. DIfferent than the zillions of rainbows I've seen all my life. Cool and mysterious, huh?

sundog? Is that a regular occurrence out there in the west?

I left a message early this morning and now it's gone. Power of the sundog, I guess.

Nice chembow! Now take a nice, big inhale ...

I was wondering if you'd chime in on this, Farmgirl. I have to say, I've been looking at skies my whole life and never seen anything quite like this -- a hovering vibrant partial rainbow in a dry, hot sky.

Thanks for sharing it with me, folks. I'll catch up with you all tomorrow.

Oh, and thanks so much, Gunn!
