And Pretty Maids All in a Row

As I walked past The Ivory Suite Bridal Boutique the other night I had to stop and take a long look through the glass. I'm not sure, but it looked like that row of gorgeous couture gowns might have been moving a little in the darkness. Restless before their big days? Swaying to a distant wedding march, perhaps?

Or maybe they were just under an air conditioning vent.

Kind of spookey, ha? Sort of like a Disney movie - I can just see them twirling about. What a pretty place and lovely photo.

I'm sure they were moving, Laurie, rehearsing for the big moment. Love the shot.

Because of their formed shape, it's almost spooky because they can stand alone without a human to hold them up. I picture all of the ballerinas lined up in the side wings preparing for their scene in Swan Lake. I love wedding dresses!!

And did you think you could show this image and expect me not to link you to THIS?

Laurie: Isn't this the movie set that appeared across from Nicole's French Deli for only a few days awhile back? I recall seeing it going in and thinking, "I don't think that place is really going to succeed in South Pasadena." It just seemed like the wrong street, the wrong neighborhood. And then, a few days later, it was gone. Unless there really is a bridal shop in South Pas, but I don't think so.

The street with the Christmas lights you mentioned in yesterday's blog is St. Albans. Virginia is the street with the tall palms that is the best way to Huntington if you're going east, because it has a stop light.

Wait a minute. I just clicked on the link. Apparently there is a bridal shop on Meridian, just above Mission. This is news to me. It must be on the north side of the driveway to the parking lot, because I've never seen it before. Very strange. But there really was a bridal-shop movie set across from Nicole's. I wonder if there was any connection. Maybe they scouted out the actual place for a shoot, but didn't find the actual location suitable, so created a mock-up nearby.

WV: blest. Blest be all who marry here.

Mr. Earl seems mighty interested in bridal salons. Gads I hope he's not secretly wearing one of these little numbers after hours!!! :)

We want equal pay, we want 50-50 shared housework, we want our husbands to be active, present parents... AND we want to marry in that feudal symbol, the white wedding gown, in a centuries-old style and with a veil covering our face.

For just one hour, we want to be Queen...

You might know I would get nostalgic thinking about my own ivory satin wedding dress that we had altered so that you could wear it too. It was my dream wedding dress. I know, because I designed it to resemble the museum piece that it is to me.

Mister Earl, you are such a romantic.

Mister E, I hadn't noticed this shop before but I pushed my nose against the glass for a long time the other night trying to oogle all those dresses. I also saw the movie set you mentioned over under the Station Lofts, but when I saw it there were cameras around so I wasn't fooled.

Love the clips, E and Judy.

Jilly, I agree!

Yak, it's weird about the whole Queen for a Day thing with weddings. I've been a bridesmaid in too many weddings to count, and I always thought the pageant of it all was kind of strange. (But then again, Jon and I eloped so I guess I'm just not the type to have a big production wedding!) I do love the dresses, though... And Mom, yours/mine fits right in with these designer gowns!

They really DID look like they were swaying in the shadows. It was cool -- but a little creepy in a Miss Havisham kind of way. (The literary character, not the fabulous blogger!)

Mr. E, please please send LA and Hiker that youtube clip. They'll love it.

And LA, I rented my wedding gown. Here today, gone tomorrow..........sort of like the husband!

maybe the shakes are coming from jittery grooms of weddings past in the form of poltergeist'

Laurie: I thought you got married in St. Lucia? Apparently in your mom's dress.

Is that shop where the gift shop used to be? I'm guessing it won't succeed unless they do a lot of mail-order business. What do you think?

Here's the little holiday link, Virg asked me to send:

I used to sing this at our office parties, but I'm a manager now, and I can't even tell them the lunch was good.

LA: Maybe... the spirits of jilted brides have found a way to dance in wedding dresses!

Mister E, yup, Jon and I shlepped a satin dress with a train and a formal tux all the way to the West Indies!

Okay, E, that Christmas link is a riot.

That link! I heard that several years ago on our Public Radio station and have loved it ever since. Just too hilarious. Thanks for the chuckle. I'd forgotten that song.

I too have been in a zillion weddings and I always loved them! I'm such a schmalzy sap!!

I still have my wedding dress. Nothing fancy - bought off the rack at what is now Macy's.

Pfft. Walking down a wide, level aisle and promising to love, honor and cherish in front of friends and family is nothing compared to walking down risers without looking and debating current event on a community college stage in front of a full house and regional TV crews, all while wearing stilletto heels and a full length gown. (plus, the bride doesn't have to appear before said crown and TV crew in a swimsuit)
God bless the Miss America pageant. It makes me smirk to think they killed my emotional driver to have a traditional wedding.

I wasn't a Princess Bride, and, if I ever remarry, I don't wish to be one, but I can imagine why so many women have the dream when I gaze at Laurie's beautiful photo.

Thanks, Mr. Earl for my chuckle of the day.
