Canvassing the Neighborhood

Painters have descended! Rational deduction would lead us to conclude they are gearing up for the California Art Club's upcoming Plein Air exhibition: South Pasadena, City of Trees. But maybe it's just a sign that South Pas as muse brings out the Renaissance creative type in all of us no matter how we choose to express it. (Painting, making music, riding a unicycle, dancing on the sidewalk, kickboxing...)

Painters aside, "Trees" by Joyce Kilmer (referred to many times in this blog) comes to mind.

I like how the two artists are connected by their hats. An invisible diagonal line joins them as well. :~)

Yes, Cafe - it's the same group that had the art show at the Community Room last October. That time the primary subject was the Rialto Theater, and it cost me a few hundred dollars to buy two paintings now hanging in our living room. This is a fundraiser with the proceeds split between the artist, the California Art Club, and the South Pas Chamber of Commerce. It will be next month and is well worth attending if nothting more to see original works by various artists of South Pasadena scenery.

These people are spies and they paint in code.

Mr. Earl: So, THAT's why the "painters" have pulled their hat brims over their faces!

LA: What gorgeous, fairy-tale colors. Love that Periwinkle blue tree trunk... love the dappled sunlight playing over the grass!

First parrots, now painters. Next, pole-vaulters? I agree. It's a lovely plein air photo.

I love the painters.

I'm glad you spotted the painters, Laurie! Yes, this is the second annual Plein Air Paint-out. See the works for free on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 5 to 10pm in the Community Room. Also - by the way, this is the centennial of the CA Art Club, which was founded here in 1909 in the studio of Franz Bischoff (sp?). Thanks for the link to the Chamber site.

How cool that it's the centennial.

I just love the whole idea of plein air and I like to say it five times really fast. :~)

Hey all!

Scott, great to see you here! Always happy to direct readers to the South Pas Chamber of Commerce!

I'm looking forward to seeing the paintings in this collection. I keep seeing artists set up under trees all over town. DB, I would love to see the Rialto paintings you snagged. I admired several last year.

Chieftess, it's pretty cool if we got the same artist in two different SoCal locations.

Mister E, I think you're on to something...

Thank you for the lovely comments and kind words, everyone. Until next time.
