The view from just below the water tower in Monterey Hills is pretty spectacular. In fact, I'm surprised it's not crowded with skygazers at every sunset. (Then again, I suppose those No Trespassing signs do tend to discourage most people...)
at first I assumed you were facing north and wondered if things had changed a bit since the last time I was near there...then I realized you're facing east---Holy Family, the high school, St James.
So if there's a sign that says "No Trespassing," how did you get the photo? Don't tell me Laurie is a photo scofflaw!
Have you discovered South Pasadena's sister water tower? It's not as photogenic, but nearly identical to the one everyone knows.
This is a great post for the day before the Fourth. Make sure you go to the parade tomorrow. It starts at 11. There's a pancake breakfast beforehand at the Firehouse. A picnic in Garfield Park after the parade and a fireworks show at the High School at night. No one celebrates the Fourth of July better than South Pasadena.
That't the one, Laurie. Columbia is the northern border of South Pasadena west of Fair Oaks. But there's an arrowhead shsped area on Raymond Hill that goes farther north. In fact, the boundary goes right through the middle of The Raymond restaurant. The water tower is in South Pasadena right about the tip of the point. It's accessible from one of the streets on top of the hill and from the base there's a good view of Pasadena. But, it's nowhere near as good as the view from the Billicke Tower where you took the great photo posted today.
Thanks, DB. The light has been all wrong every time I've been up on Raymond Hill. I've been meaning to set aside an afternoon to shoot pictures all over that area. There are some really cute apartments up there.
In December of 2007, after many years on the west side of Los Angeles (and at least a third of those years spent stuck in traffic on Pico Boulevard) my family settled into a happy little house in South Pasadena. This daily blog covered almost 5 years as I put down roots in my new home town -- and almost 5 more as I settled in and became a South Pas old-timer. Here it is...my time capsule of South Pasadena.

Thank you Charlie's Coffee House for hosting my photo exhibit, South Pas: Observed. From October 2011 through January 2012 my pictures graced the walls of the best place in town to get a cup of coffee!

Wow! what a view. Lovely lead in to the 4th. Enjoy the holiday.
Hi everyone,
Would you believe I didn't see the No Trespassing signs until after I'd climbed over the wall? These new contact lenses, I'm telling you...
Okay, so I snuck over for a quick shot. But isn't it pretty?
Thanks for all of the lovely comments. Hope everyone is enjoying the fourth of July weekend. Til tomorrow...
Oh, and DB, is the other water tower the one on Raymond Hill? I couldn't tell if that one belonged to Pasadena.
