Prospecting

Pull into San Pascual Stables and you'll see this beautifully decaying relic from our region's past. Sure, we've progressed a bit from horses and carriages but sometimes California still feels like the wild, wild west. This rusty wagon is a great reminder.

Hmmm… it does look like it belongs there. Not something I say about trash everyday.

That old Hank Williams song "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" immediately came to mind.

Laurie - You've outdone yourself. This is the ultimate old-car-in-South-Pasadena photo.

A lot of people don't know all the facilities that can be found in the Arroyo. Besides the athletic fields, there's two stables, bridle trails, a nice little golf course, batting cages, skate park, and racquet center. And, an old brokend down carriage.

"Wagon wheels, wagon wheels, keep on a turning, wagon wheels. Roll along, sing your song, carry me over the hill."

Looks like this wagon has seen many a hill. Makes us appreciate our cars and what the people endured who rode the trails in these wagons.

Lovely nostalgic picture, Laurie. Thank you for the reminder as we drive around in our air conditioned cars today.

Is it a Ford?

WHY, WHY, WHY hasn't some artist, sculptor or decorator snapped up these pieces and fashioned them into separate works of art that would sell for ... oh wait, that's a materialistic reaction to an otherwise nostalgic view.

Still... Shanna, what do you think?

Come to think of it, this is Laurie's tribute to her cousin Gary. (I'm so jealous.)

Ok: Here's another one where I swear that we are not living in the same town. Nice shot.

Now there's some character. Looks like about a 1843 chuck wagon, without Chuck.

How many hours a day do you wander your wonderful neighborhood and it's target rich environment.

I can't look at that wagon without thinking it's part of a movie or TV set. Or Disneyland. Seriously, if it were just lying somewhere in LA County, Yak would have found it by now and turned it into a mobile.

It's wonderful to see signs of the past in the present day.

My wheels have about fallen off as well.

Okay, Yak, you did ask. So...

I can see the covered wagon as a solution to the homeless issue. Well, it does provide shelter. And with the aid of horses...transportation sans the emission problems of gasoline. That is how I think. Retro plus progressive at the same time.

Hey gang,

DBdubya, I hadn't thought of this as part of the old car series! THat's too funny...

Double D, you asked how many hours I spend prowling around my neighborhood looking for shots. Well, I just always carry a camera! This shot, for example, came when my daughter wanted to go by the stables to visit the horses. We often sit in the car and have lunch watching horses and riders. (We have a favorite horse we've named Brownie.) I noticed this old wagon and, voila...

Thanks for the lovely comments, everyone. Until tomorrow...
