Acropolis above South Pas?

I never know what I'm going to discover when I wander up and around South Pasadena's winding hills. (Hey, do you think this is where she lost her head?)

Yesterday's house had the warmest of vibes, but this house... has statuary but no gardener to seed the lawn? OK, so it's kinda cool the way the two marble ladies are overseen by the two trees standing like sentinels, but there are no cookies baking in this house. Martinis are being stirred... cigars are being trimmed... and somewhere inside there is a pet monkey wearing a tiara and a Pamper.

It looks like a transplanted Las Vegas bathroom. (Monkey w/ pampers -- really, Yakpate.)

That is the most kick ass Unibomber cabin I have ever seen.

This looks very interesting Laurie. Now you leave me wondering if you got closer to those marble statues? Would love to see them up close.

What is it Laurie? A private residence, a monument to bad taste, or both?

This is the back view of the house, the front is just as fancy...travel up Camino Del Cielo and its at the end of the street.

I adore a bit of hilltop kitsch. I can smell the gyros from down below.

Zip is right...but the best view is from Via del Rey or off of Camino Lindo.

the house, as far as I ever knew it, was mysterious. I often played with kids on the cul-de-sac up there, but we steered clear of that place and one other. It just does not fit the rest of the neighborhood, but I suspect it was one of the first built at the end of the street back in the late 60's when they all went up.

All of the houses up there do not conform to the Altos de Monterey norm, some of it is the location---on the side of the hill. Some of it, I dunno, just odd.

And, btw, that hill, if it had grass on it, would need a mountain goat to tend, not a gardener...pretty good steep drop to Via del Rey from those statues!

Am sure there are great views down thru El Sereno...but a little odd for my taste!

Hey kids,

Trish and Zip, thanks for the background on this house. I need to drive up to see the front of it. I must admit, it looks a bit out of place, even among all of the mid-century and ranch houses in the hills. This photo was taken without my zoom, on auto, on a low megapixel setting so it's not the best quality for showing details of those statues. I still wanted to share it because I found the entire scene to be so incongruous with the rest of our town.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. Until tomorrow...

Yak, I'm still laughing about the monkey in a Pamper!!! Wow, I love the way your brain works!

What's perhaps most odd about this house is that the large round object on the roof is a clock. It looks like a huge mantle clock. There's a matching one on front. I guess the owners want to make sure anyone driving by will know whether they are on time.

This house reminds me of the one owned by the parents in Big Fat Greek Wedding.

DBdubya, I had no idea that was a clock. It's even more mysterious, now!
