Stormy Weather

The approaching storm yesterday afternoon created a wonderfully moody backdrop along Fair Oaks Avenue. I couldn't resist creating a little suspense with this high contrast black and white cloud noir...

(Actually, after the intense fires recently, rain is considered a potentially dramatic event. )

very beautiful spot but I indestand the danger because after the big fires (we have seen at TV) the eath is intable.

The b&w is very dramatic. Wonderful photo. Nothing is ever right in California it seems... it's always too much or too little. But hope the weather conditions improve which ever way you're hoping for. :)

Beautiful photo Laurie...my mom, down in SD said it's supposed to rain all week. Socal needs the rain but can't take too much of it at once.
Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving :)

To quote an old song, "You're either too young or too old." In So. Calif. it seems it's either too dry or too wet. Your very nice and spooky picture reminds me of Texas in the Spring. But at least we don't have mud slides. Just tornadoes. My every good wish for your safety and a Happy Thanksgiving with loved ones.

Great shot made more so by the monochrome. Perfecto!

When I saw this in the portal I thought....'It was a dark and stormy night and....

...and I was right! It's like the beginning of a scary film. You created the drama with the black and white.

Had to be mono. I think you are a cinematographer. Each mono image is a noir still.

Rain is good ... for almost all.
It makes tough driving though up the 5 & 99. Love the building in B&W. & wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving.

I had a similar thought to Dixie Jane's - it looks southern, and Texan is fine with me.

The dark dark charcoal grays in our skies today (yesterday, the midnight pie baker said) looked like art in the making.

Hi all,

Welcome Marguerite-Marie!

Dixie Mom, aghhh! Now you've got that song stuck in my head! Wait a minute, now Judy's version of Stormy Weather is taking over...

Babooshka, thanks! Most of my photographic inspiration comes from cinematography -- particularly of the 1930s and 40s. A lot of people put on music for background. I often put on classic films as visual background -- All About Eve or Grapes of Wrath or Casablanca or anything shot by ALton... you get the idea.

Here's wishing all my American loved ones a most happy Thanksgiving. (Pie! Where's the pie!?)

Until tomorrow...
