Settings: Part 4

Vintage metal trailer... old world fountain... square cement tiles on a wood chip lawn... wrought iron gate...tree swing...

Okay, everyone. It's been a while since we've played this game but I can't resist with props like these.

Go ahead and channel your inner Fellini and tell me: if this were a scene for a movie, what would happen here?

I'm not a movie buff so won't play the game but I really love the photo.

The trailer door opens, releasing a cascade of dwarfs, dancing girls, jugglers and an elephant, all decked out in circus costumes. They somersault closer into the camera's eye and then beyond it, leaving one shy dancer and a juggler at the fountain, which begins to cascade a golden liquid. The elephant, injured from its failed attempt to somersault, trumpets piteously. Close up of the dancer's and the juggler's faces... tears glide from their eyes. They touch fingertips.

A fat lady appears from off-camera and sits in the swing, forcing it low to the ground. Pulling a cigarette holder and matches from between her enormous breasts she lights up, then tosses the match into the streaming fountain. It instantly ignites... the golden liquid is gasoline.

With her hair on fire the dancer tells the juggler she loves him. The fat lady screams, "He's my husband and I'll never give him a divorce!" The juggler signals the injured elephant, which he has trained since it was born, to come to his aid. It rises to its feet and sits on the fat lady, crushing her. Close-up to one of the elephant's eyes, from which the light is slowly fading. A single tear rolls down its massive face as it, too, dies.

The dancer, now bald, leaps over the gate and abandons the juggler. He stares intently just left of camera. Placing dark glasses over his eyes he tosses thee balls into the air and walks off camera. One by one, the balls fall into the garden, but stop in a mid-air freeze frame.

The End

The director would yell, "Cut!! How did that fountain get in there? Get that fountain out of there!!"

When released the film would be:

10,000 living garden gnomes emerge from the trailer. It takes 1:15 minutes for them all to emerge. The film is shown exclusively at at two art theaters, one in Greenwich Village and the other in Berkeley. Yoko Ono attends the Greenwich Village opening and stays through the whole showing.

I swear I didn't read Yak's post before I posted mine.

But in Yak's post, after all this happens, a Hollywood type, sitting in a director's chair says, "That's pretty good. What do you call yourselves?" To which the juggler replies, "The Aristocrats!"

Great Photo...

A boy comes back to the winery he summered at while a boy in France. He coldly sells the winery (act II) before his conscience gets the best of him (act III).

I think they've already made this movie!

Naturally I have no clue. Why can't I ever play this game? I have a good imagination I think. I know. I panic and get writer's block when you start it. I will think of something great when I wake up at 2:00am but you all won't care by then. Let me just say that is a fine damn trailer. IT's cute as can be!

From the house side of the gate a girl in a flowered housedress yells to her husband, "Linwood, watch the baby, there is a strange ruckus going on over near the trailor. I must see if there is anything I can do." Through the gate she runs and on the way collides with a baldheaded girl dressed in circus clothes. When finding a squashed fat lady (with ginormous boobs) a dead elephant, sitting on her. she yells to Linwood, "Call 911!" Fade out soft organ music playing,"Vaya Con Dios."

Especially to Yak:

Whatever it is you are having, I want some too.

Great! Very Fellini-esque, Yak. (And had it been Warhol-esque, it wouldn't have been gasoline.)

I had no brainstorms and it's just as well. I couldn't compete with these submissions. I froze up just like V.

And the winner is?

It suggests to me a story about rich people losing it all and having to leave everything behind. They pack what they can into their trailer and off they go. Their daughter misses none of it except the tree swing.

Hi all,

Welcome David!

Okay, I knew you guys were good but you've outdone yourselves. I think Yak, Mister Earl, David and Dixie Mom need to team up and jump start the indie film scene vacated by Merchant Ivory. Or at least start pitching TV show ideas to the people who make LOST and Eli Stone. I'll have whatever ALL of you are having!!! And DCS, thanks for adding your two cents, my brilliant film scholar friend...

Petrea, dear novelist-soul, will you PLEASE write your book? Now I want to read this story of the family in the trailer and the girl who only misses her swing. It sounds like something Rebecca Wells would write...

Thanks for playing. I'm going to dream about elephants and jugglers, I just know it...

It's the sequel to "Mars Attacks" and the aliens are using the trailer as their headquarters, since it resembles one of their space ships. They land in what they think is Rome (because of the fountain) but find themselves in Southern California instead...... (can you hear Slim Whitman in the background?)

Hey, that's my yard and my camper. Nice photo. Yak is close to the truth, except instead of a casdade of dwarves it's miniature weiner dogs. Thanks, all, for making me giggle. :)

ps. if you like campers, too, www.tinycamper.com is where I spent my life's savings on it.
