Garfield Park at Dusk

Filmmakers call it magic hour; poets call it twilight … that transient period right after sunset where light and darkness can’t quite decide which one is leading the dance. I think I snatched a fragment of the moment here. The only things missing are fireflies. Or maybe fairies.

Ah, the gloaming hour. My favorite time of day, especially in the fall when the light comes in at a angle.

I like being out and about at the moment when the street lights come on.

Ooh, this is cool. Looks like a nice park.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. Geocaching is when you use a GPS and given coordinates to locate a spot where someone hid a cache. A cache can be anywhere from the size of a pencil lead container to a large Rubbermaid container, and contains a log (in which to log your visit), and possibly a variety of other objects known as travelbugs or geocoins, or whatever else people drop off. It's a really fun concept that has caught on around the world, but was started in Oregon! To learn more, visit www.geocaching.com. Maybe you'll find a new hobby there! :o)

Hope to see you at my blog again. I look forward to visiting yours again.

Your grandmother often commented on this being her favorite time of day into night. The Gloaming. I had forgotten about that lovely word. And as for fairies, yes, they are there chasing the fireflies. I'm such a romantic.

It's a charming scene Laurie, and those lamps sort of have the quality of firefly light. The shot has such an appealing composition. I wish I were strolling there right now. Growing up in SoCal, about the only thing I miss about it are the fragrances in a setting like this on a warm evening and the feel of the summer air when the cool of evening descends.

Hi all,

Palm Axis -- gloaming! I had forgotten about that wonderful word.

Thanks, Elaine!

afyonkarahisar, dive? AM I missing something in the translation?

Petrea, I think it's good luck if you're under a streetlamp when the light turns on. Either that, or you've just had a REALLY innovative idea...

Kim, I agree with the fragrances in SoCal. I lived here ten years before I knew that one of my favorites was mock orange. People always said jasmine but that wasn't it. I ended up owning a house with a mock orange tree. To this day, that scent reminds me of being so young and full of expectation. (How I was when I moved here!)

Aloha, thank you so much for stopping by!

ANd Becky, I knew I needed to know that word!

(waving at Mom!)

Thanks for the lovely feedback everyone.

Photographers call this along wtih the hour before daybreak the golden hour. It's hard to master shots in this light but you can get some stunning shots, like this.
Great work, and I see the blog is really taking off.
